Description: Students sort the instruments into their orchestral families: brass, woodwinds, or strings. For an added challenge, provide students with pencil and paper and have them write as many additional instruments from each family as they can think of. You could also have them draw a diagram of where each family sits on stage, or make a list characteristics specific to each family.

Musical Objective: Students will learn to categorize instruments into orchestral families.
