Music is not an elite skill for the chosen few to master. Music belongs to everyone. I teach music so that my students will become more human… so that they will recognize beauty… so that they will have something to calm them in the night and greet them in the morning… so that they will have something to aide them in their rejoicing, grieving, and most importantly in their living. I teach music because I hope that music will do for them what it did for me.

Classic “memory” game with percussion instruments.
Sort these instruments into the correct instrument family: brass, woodwinds, or strings.
Students build melodies on the staff with pennies by decoding phrases written in solfege, pitch names, or scale degrees.
Name the notes on each staff to spell a word. Find the card that has the matching answer.
Find the note name sequence that matches each musical phrase. Clap the rhythm and try to sing the phrase using the note names. Play the phrase and decide with title matches the familiar tune.
Add up the values of each note.
